"Considering Cities II" MIT + IE

MIT Deparment of Architecture + IE School of Architecture and Design redefine the contemporary city in Madrid and Segovia. Next November 8 and 9 the symposium MIT+IE “Considering Cities II” will take place at IE. Three Professors from MIT, Nader Tehrani, Yung Ho Chang and Alexander D'Hooghe will present their view of the present and future of the contemporary city in a series of short presentations which will be followed by an open discussion between the speakers, the IE Professors Martha Thorne, Javier Quintana, Josemaría de Churtichaga and Ricard Frigola, as well as the rest of the audience.

The three professors from MIT will discuss themes such as the potential role of infrastructure to be objectified into monuments, el concept of the “Real City”, which deals with the notion of theme park as city in present-day China, and the impact of size, speed, and environment in one monolith single program projects that can be found in the contemporary city.

During this week it is difficult to do a resume, however here some news highlights to remember the key players in METALOCUS.

Key players of the week were the city and citizens. Under the title: "Pilas Alcalaínas. Energy dose Rehabilitate the City" in Alcala started the week with guests exceptional, always unfair not to mention all, so mention the first guest, Guillaume Yersin from 1to100, (Venice Biennale - RECLAIM Golden Lion 2010), in the  middle Alberto Alarcón from "mmmm"...


THINK SPACE - Unconference – "Beyond the Borders"

Kata Marunica informs us that the Zagreb Society of Architects is opening the call for the final event of the annual cycle of The Borders competitions. They are inviting you to the First Think Space Unconference – "Beyond the Borders", on November 18 – 20, in Lauba House, People and Art House, Zagreb, Croatia.

Following the four rounds of the conceptual architectural competitions, the final event will be organized together with an award ceremony and exhibition of projects submitted during the architectural competitions in the Think Space Program. Conceived as a series of highly interactive sessions for 300 participants who will lively discuss the topics from the competitions, the final event is planned in the form of the unconference.
