Serpentine Pavilion 2014 by Smiljan Radić.

Serpentine Gallery [LON] U.K. 26.06 >19.10.2014
metalocus, INÉS LALUETA
Architecture, Exhibitions
"The Serpentine Pavilion 2014 continues a history of small romantic constructions seen in parks or large gardens, the so-called follies that were popular from the late sixteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century. Radić is the fourteenth architect to accept the invitation to design a temporary Pavilion outside the entrance to the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens. His design follows Sou Fujimoto’s cloud-like structure which was visited by almost 200,000 people in 2013 and was one of the most visited Pavilions to-date.

Occupying a footprint of some 514 square metres on the lawn of the Serpentine Gallery, plans depict a semi-translucent, cylindrical structure, designed to resemble a shell, which rests on large quarry stones. This work has its roots in the architect’s earlier work, particularly The Castle of the Selfish Giant, inspired by the Oscar Wilde story and the Restaurant Mestizo - part of which is supported by large boulders.

Tchoban Foundation. Museum for Architectural Drawing. [BER] Germany. 28.6 > 3.10.2014

The Museum for Architectural Drawing presents Lebbeus Woods. ON-LINE, an exhibition of the finest works of architectural theorist, draftsman, educator and architect, Lebbeus Woods (1940–2012). The show focuses on the intensely rendered architectural and urban environments produced early on in Woods’ career. These ink and pencil drawings cover a wide range of Woods’ research and re-imagination of cities both real and fictive and support his longstanding desire to show the capacity of architecture as a transformative and eloquent force.

Lebbeus Woods, († 2012) was a contradictory figurehead. As a challenging philosopher and writer, great visionary, gifted artist, fantastic teacher and excessive character he manifested his thoughts and visions in hundreds of manuscripts and fascinating pencil drawings of outstanding depth and gravity. Some of his companions invited to this symposium will reflect on his personality in relation to his overwhelming oeuvre...

Villa CP by Zest Architecture.

By Zest Architecture [Girona], Spain.
metalocus, ALEX DURO.
Little by little we know more and more of what it is possible to see on Biennale di Venezia. The transformation of an old Catalan farmhouse in a 21st century house, by the Co Govers' team, is exhibited in the Palazzo Mora. A work of adaptation to the enviroment, ecology and good use of materials.

Zest Architecture is a young architectural studio based and leaded by the Dutch architect Co Govers since 2008. Her project for the restoration of an old Catalan farmhouse and its transformation into a 21st century house, Villa CP, will take part in the following Biennale di Venezia, which will be opened next 7th of June and about what we have been talking about the last weeks.

The house is exhibited in the Palazzo Mora in the exhibition "Time Space Existence"...

Vertical Horizon.

[Hong Kong]
metalocus, INÉS LALUETA.
The name Vertical Horizon is an obvious reminder of our competitive Hong Kong skyline where each building is trying to be the tallest, the boldest, the most beautiful, the youngest, the oldest or the most famous.

Below, this is how Romain Jacquet-Lagraze observes and photographs the large and constantly changing Asian capital – vertiginously from the bottom up.

The city refers to how we grow as a person. Our lives are like buildings; we start at the bottom, we reach for the sky and our foundation is crucial to our success which is why I work from low-angle shots.

The Russian Pavilion designed as a trade fair of architectural ideas.

National Participations. Venice Biennale 2014. [VEN] Italy.
Architecture, Exhibitions
The Russian Pavilion at la Biennale di Venezia has been design as a trade fair, where 20 fictional companies present examples of Constructivism and modern Russian architecture as products and concepts for sale.

Since 1914, Russia has established itself as the world’s largest and most radical urban laboratory. Decades of experimentation have produced architectural solutions for almost any demographic need or social ambition. These efforts are undertaken at great cost, and their usefulness is often undersold.

Rather than presenting a linear story of Russia’s modernization, Fair Enough...

CANADA. Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15.

Venice Biennale 2014. [VEN] Italy
'Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15' is Canada’s national exhibition at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia. It is organized and curated by Lateral Office of Toronto. The main aim was to carry out an experimental design practice that operates at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and urbanism, in Nunavut district located in the north os Canada.

Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15, which means “our land”, is Canada’s newest, largest, and most northerly territory. It separated from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999 following a hard-fought land claims agreement established in 1993.

Today, there are almost 33,000 people living in 25 communities across two million square...

Playgrounds. Reinventing the square.

Exhibition. Museo Reina Sofía [MAD], Spain. 30/04 > 22/09/2014.
metalocus, ALEX DURO.
'Playgrounds. Reinventing the square' is the new exhibition by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, which can be visited since several days and which will be opened until the finish of the summer. Through a wide range of formats such as photography, sculpture, video, painting, installations ... we enter the world of the game from the playground and plaza, to public spaces entirely redefined. Be highlighted photographs of the Unité d'habitation Le Corbusier, Buckminster Fuller, Lina Bo Bardi, Aldo Van Eyck or crowds of Coney Island.

The exhibition, which could be visited since the first of May, walking through photographs, videos, sculptures, paintings and even installations, a new way of seeing the history of art from the late 19th century in which value is placed on the redefined or reinvented public space for the game, festival and looking for new possibilities of use.

We have found several images with a special interest such as the ones of Unité d'...

BELGIUM. Intérieurs. Notes et Figures.

Venice Biennale 2014. [VEN] Italy.
metalocus, SARA REBOLLO
Architecture, Exhibitions
Intérieurs. Notes et Figures, carried out by the Belgian Pavilion's curatorship team, looks into domestic spaces that result from different processes of transformation. The study is based on interior images of homes throughout Belgium taken over five months and reveals the attitudes that, beyond pure form, allow us to define a culture that is specific to certain transformations.

The concept of the interior is fundamental in architectural design. Yet there are very few studies that approach it as a separate field of inquiry. Behind the permanence of buildings’ façades, all sorts of transformations, adjustments and modifications are carried out. From this perspective, a study of our interiors provides valuable information about the new challenges to which architectural practice must...
