Celebrations for the completed restoration of the Alvar Aalto Library in Vyborg come to a climax at the Alvar Aalto Museum summer exhibition “W.W.W.” Alvar Aalto Library in Vyborg. The exhibition takes a wide-ranging look at the history of Alvar Aalto’s seminal work from the point of view of the building itself and the restoration project.The exhibition will be open to the public in the Gallery at the Alvar Aalto Museum from 23.5. to 14.9.2014.

“Thematically, the exhibition is divided into two parts. The first of these describes the history of the Library and how it came into being, while the second focuses on the restoration of the Library from the point of view of building conservation and renovation,” says Katariina Pakoma, Chief Curator of the Alvar Aalto Museum.

This proposal by BAAS architects and BOPBAA has been presented in a private competition organized by the Hospital de Sant Pau for setting and design the museum space of the newly renovated Pabellón de Sant Salvador in Barcelona. Despite they have not won the contest we think it seems an interesting proposal.

LUMA Arles will present the second phase of Solaris Chronicles, an exhibition that examines the creative vision of Frank Gehry through a series of artistic interventions and projects that bridge art and architecture. Commissioned and produced by the LUMA Foundation, the exhibition is on view in the Atelier de la Mécanique, located on the 20-acre (10 ha) LUMA Arles campus. The presentation will feature new contributions by Cai Guo-Qiang and David Lynch evolving around large-scale models of a number of the architect’s seminal works. Masks exhibition features a series of 18 photographic portraits taken in the 1980s by Alberto Schommer, a recent recipient of the National Photography Prize, together with a selection of 13 portraits from the Museum’s own collection painted by Spanish artists between the 16th and the early 20th century.

Room C of the Prado’s Jerónimos Building is the venue for the exhibitions Masks, a series of 18 photographic portraits by Alberto Schommer of modern-day Spanish intellectuals. They will be shown in a specially devised context in the Museum, alongside a selection of 13 portraits from its collection that are comparable in terms of iconography and composition.

The headquarters for the "International Union for Conservation of Nature" (IUCN) in Gland is setting a benchmark in sustainable construction.
