CANAL + Xtra will premiere the documentary Design is One: Lella and Massimo Vignelli next Monday, May 26. This Italian couple is among the most influential designers in the world. Their work contains a wide range of fans that could be said to be known to everyone, even to those who don't know their name. Throughout his career, his motto has been "if you can't find it, design it". His achievements in industrial and product design, graphic and editorial, corporate identity programs, architectural graphics, exhibition design, interior and furniture have earned worldwide respect and numerous national and international awards in 40 years.
In 1965 Massimo Vignelli introduced Helvetic typography in the United States. Its projects include the plans and signage of the New York subway, furniture for Poltrona Frau, Venini lamps and the corporate identity of American Airlines or Bloomingdales. At the forefront of design, Vignelli continue to be a reference for other designers. His work is being filed in a new building at the Rochester Institute of Technology, which will help future generations to appreciate his contribution.
