The project is part of the exhibition Vogadors/Arquitectural Rowers, which last year accounted for Catalonia in the 13th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale. Today, you can visit the exhibition at Fabra i Coats - Centre of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.
The award, valued projects addressing the theme of Mediterranean architecture, restoration, rehabilitation and preservation of historic buildings and monuments, was awarded at a ceremony held on Friday, June 28 on the island Ischia Naples. The event was part of the annual "Torre in Luce" Ischia island, and was organized by the Cultural Association Isola delle tueste, Supervisor of Cultural and Architectural Heritage of Naples and province, and the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape and Conservatives in the province of Naples.
Inaraja Meritxell project is an intervention in a historic building that wants to make visible the different layers of time that has been accumulating over the place, showing arches and openings that had been embedded in previous eras. A contemporary remodelations that give value to the courtyard and avoid the contrast with previous elements, trying to build a solid piece.
La Seca takes the name of the Seca Reial or of the Reial Fàbrica de la Moneda (Royal Currency’s Factory) de la Corona d’Aragó. The word Seca has its origin in the “sekka” Arabic word meaning “place where it makes money.”

MERITXELL INARAJA
Meritxell Inaraja graduated as an architect from ETSAB (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in 1994. After obtaining a postgraduate diploma in Museography, Design & Fitting from the same university, she enrolled in a Doctoral Program in Construction, Engineering, and Architectural Research.
She has worked both for public and private clients, and has realized many restoration works. Among them we can highlight the restoration of the old Mint House "La Seca", in Barcelona (2011), for which she was awarded the "Premio sul Restauro e Architetture Mediterranee" at the second edition of PRAM. The project also participated in the XIII Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2012.
Inaraja is a member of the Technical Commission on Cultural Heritage in Central Catalonia, Generalitat de Catalunya.
