SlowLab presented the collection in the context of Slow Lloyd (Eastern Docklands area of Amsterdam, Holland), as a metaphor for taking time and care to get to know the Lloyd, the neighborhood around it and the people who live there. Marijke teamed up with filmmaker Thalia de Jong to create the film shown in the video, shot entirely within the Lloyd and with cameos by local residents.
The cleaning tools and film were exhibited in slowLab's Slow Loket at the Lloyd Hotel. This space for public interaction directly faces the historic 'Ontsmettingsgebouw' (‘disinfection building’), where a century ago guests of the Lloyd Hotel were scrubbed down before boarding the boat to South America. In contrast with this historic practice, Lekker Vies offered a more loving, slow approach to cleaning, while engaging in dialogue with the memory of the site.
