MIT Deparment of Architecture + IE School of Architecture and Design redefine the contemporary city in Madrid and Segovia. Next November 8 and 9 the symposium MIT+IE “Considering Cities II” will take place at IE. Three Professors from MIT, Nader Tehrani, Yung Ho Chang and Alexander D'Hooghe will present their view of the present and future of the contemporary city in a series of short presentations which will be followed by an open discussion between the speakers, the IE Professors Martha Thorne, Javier Quintana, Josemaría de Churtichaga and Ricard Frigola, as well as the rest of the audience.

The three professors from MIT will discuss themes such as the potential role of infrastructure to be objectified into monuments, el concept of the “Real City”, which deals with the notion of theme park as city in present-day China, and the impact of size, speed, and environment in one monolith single program projects that can be found in the contemporary city.
This activity is part of the reciprocal symposium “Considering Cities” that emerged from an agreement between MIT Department of Architecture and IE School of Architecture and Design. The event started last October 7th in the campus of MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA) with a series of short presentations given by IE Professors, Javier Quintana, Josemaría de Churtichaga and Ricard Frigola, and a discussion moderated by Martha Thorne.
