Burckhardt
Burckhardt was founded in Basel in 1951 as an architectural practice and is now represented by a team of 450 employees across nine locations in Switzerland and Germany. The practice designs and delivers projects across virtually all architectural typologies and scales. In addition, Burckhardt provides development services and invests in its own projects.
Samuel Schultze was born in 1958 and studied architecture and urban planning at ETH Zurich from 1977 to 1983. He began his career at Burckhardt in 1985 as a design architect. For three decades, from 1993 to 2023, he was a partner and, initially until 2009, a member of the Board of Directors. In the meantime, he completed a post-graduate degree in General Management at the University of Basel at the end of the 1990s. From 2010, Schultze took over as CEO and was also a delegate of the Board of Directors. He retired in 2023 and remained a member of the Board of Directors until 2024. Alongside his management role at Burckhardt, Samuel Schultze was president of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel from 2012–2020.
