The project developed by the Madrid-based art collective Boa Mistura: RE-ACT, lands in Miami to explore the tension between individual actions and their effects on public space. RE-ACT resonates deeply in Miami, a city grappling with the continuous transformation of its public space and the systematic rotation of cultural landmarks.

In collaboration with the Ponce+Robles gallery, Boa Mistura partners with DORCAM (Doral Contemporary Art Museum) to carry out its next project during Miami Art Week, which will take place between Sunday, December 1 and December 7 at Laundromat Art Space, an artistic space for innovation that fosters collaboration between multidisciplinary artists and the growth of emerging artists.

Continuing along the line of research opened with the “RE-VS” project at the last edition of the ARCO2023 fair, Boa Mistura invites us to reflect on the role that citizens play in preserving the elements that make up the identity of the city and to react to the forces that currently shape the urban landscape, exploring the relationships between the private and public spheres.

RE-ACT is based on a work presented in two formats that interact with each other: a large-scale mural, which will be erased 48 hours after being finished outside the gallery, and a fragmented replica, composed of 30 original paintings, which will be displayed inside the gallery.

The mural faces its imminent erasure 48 hours after its completion. The permanence of the work in the public space is in the hands of the individual action of the collectors, who through the acquisition of the original paintings, “save” the corresponding fragments in the mural from disappearing.

On December 7, the mural will be systematically erased in a 3-hour performance (19:00 - 22:00 CET), and only those fragments “saved” by the collectors will remain, these being the ones that define the final appearance of the work in the public space.

“This project invites us to think about the effects that our individual actions have on the public space. Our work is ephemeral by nature, because it is in the public space. Over time they disappear, sometimes due to the direct action of human desire, and other times due to the passage of time itself, and advertising will be placed in their place. This is the harsh reality that we have to face all the time.”

Pablo, member of Boa Mistura.

This exciting action will be broadcast live on Boa Mistura's YouTube channel. At the end of the performance, the appearance of the mural will be a reflection of the collective reaction to individual decisions.

"DORCAM is delighted to partner with Boa Mistura and the vibrant vision of this collective to our beloved city during Miami Art Week 2024. We are equally excited to collaborate with Laundromat Arts Space and Ponce+Robles gallery from Spain on this exceptional project."

Marcelo Llobell, Director of DORCAM.

Boa Mistura. The work of Boa Mistura is all about the love of graffiti, colour and life. This group founded by 5 Spanish artists is, as the name says, a good mixture. Arkoh, Derko, Pahg, Purone and Rdick have developed their work in different fields, applying both a diversity of styles and the different views of each member. Boa Mistura represents a mixture of perspectives which complement, influence and mix themselves together in order to create something better. From graffiti and mural painting, to graphic design and illustration, Boa Mistrua want to give the world its colour back. 5 heads, 10 hands, just one heart.

Boa Mistura is a multidisciplinary group whose roots are in graffiti, currently directed by Javier Serrano, Pablo Ferreiro and Pablo Purón. The group works in various fields: from the latest trends in graffiti and street murals, to illustration, graphic design, studio painting and collaborations with interior designers and architects.

They have taken part in exhibitions in art galleries such as the Reina Sofía Museum and the Casa Encendida in Madrid, and the DA2 Museum in Salamanca. They have collaborated with foundations such as ONCE (Spanish national organisation for the blind), Oxfam and Antonio Gala, and given lectures at universities such as Madrid, Seville and Alcalá de Henares.

Boa Mistura has completed projects for brands such as Google, Microsoft, Sony Music and Adidas and in 2010 a Latin Grammy nomination for best cover design. The term “Boa Mistura”, from the Portuguese for “good mixture”, refers to the diversity of style and perspectives of each member. Love for graffiti, colour and life. Distinct visions which complement each other, influence each other, and always combine to create something even better.
