Opened in September 2025 at the intersection of Avenue du Port and Rue de l’Entrepôt, the new Magasin 4 concert venue, designed by the Belgian studio CENTRAL OFAAU, is part of a larger project driven by the Citroën-Vergote Urban Renewal Contracts, a collaboration between various public institutions.

The new Magasin 4, a venue dedicated to alternative music since its founding in 1994, occupies a vacant plot next to the canal, within the Citroën-Vergote urban renewal area. The project offers a contemporary response to the city's transformations, articulating the relationship between activities and urban life without relinquishing its cultural identity within the alternative music scene.

The layout of the complex, proposed by CENTRAL OFAAU, is structured around two distinct volumes: one for the logistical needs of musicians and technical staff, and the other for the audience. Between the two buildings lies the concert hall, an acoustically isolated space of 382 m² with a capacity of approximately 500 people, complemented by a rooftop terrace.

With a surface area of nearly 900 m², the building is designed with a structure capable of adapting to changing uses over time. Its construction system distinguishes between a permanent base—made of concrete—and a series of removable elements, such as enclosures, finishes, and equipment, which allow for flexible and reversible reorganization of the spaces. In this regard, it pays particular attention to the principles of circularity, adaptability, flexibility and minimisation of the carbon footprint, especially in the choice of materials.

Project description by CENTRAL OFAAU

A mythical venue for underground culture for more than 25 years, Magasin 4 is settling along the Brussels canal. A cultural and evolving infrastructure, this new temple dedicated to music and celebration has doubled its spatial and structural potential. From time one, the architecture offers a surplus of space to increase the planned activities. In the long term, the oversized load-bearing structure allows for the addition of different floors on the building and on either side of it. MAGASIN 4 is a public architecture celebrating Brussels' initiatives, energy and otherness, opening up the place to other possible futures. A hardcore structure with soft additions shouting out: NO FUTURE? FUTURE PROOF!

CENTRAL OFAAU (Office for Architecture and Urbanism) is a Brussels-based practice founded in 2015 by Radim Louda, Paul Mouchet, Valentin Piret and former partner Pierre Burquel, who gained their experience respectively in Belgian and foreign offices (XDGA, BevkPerovi?, B-architects, AUC, V+).

Today, Radim Louda, Paul Mouchet and Valentin Piret are together developing a practice where they explore the blurred boundaries between the different scales of the architectural discipline. Their practice, both operational and reflexive, public and private, is based on the conviction that architecture must take shape through the relationships it creates with its urban, social, cultural and living environment.

CENTRAL's work has been exhibited in international exhibitions such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Biennale of Architecture and Landscape of Île-de-France (BAP) and the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR). They regularly give lectures and workshops in several European universities and teach at La Cambre-Horta in Brussels and at the ENSA-Versailles. Lately, they were nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022.
