The Amann-Cánovas-Maruri study (Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos, SLP) has been the winner of the competition organized by Accion Cultural Española (AC / E) -a public body responsible for managing the presence of Spain in the Universal and International Exhibitions- to choose the architectural project of the Spanish Pavilion at the Universal Exhibition of Dubai 2020.
After the confirmation of the participation of Spain in Expo Dubai 2020 in February 2017, on February 13, Acción Cultural Española (AC / E) convened an open public tender for the selection of the presentation, under anonymity, of the architectural proposals of the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020.

The winning study of the contest of the Spanish Pavilion for Expo Dubai 2020, Amann-Cánovas-Maruri (Temperatures Extreme Architects, SLP), has been chosen today by the jury appointed for that purpose and ratified in the Board of Directors of Spanish Cultural Action ( AC / E).

Under the motto People and places, the project has been specially valued for its iconic strength, its sustainability criteria and a design based on the idea of total recycling of its materials.

The Pavilion, of about 6,000 m², gives prominence to a large square covered by a series of conical volumes that have a climatic function to temper the public space. The square offers a series of domes covered with various materials that make reference to the most traditional insulation techniques in combination with innovative solutions. It responds to the principles of the circular economy and offers solutions that make it possible to plan a second life for the whole or some of its parts.

In the jury of the contest, chaired by the Executive Chairman of AC / E and General Commissioner of the Spanish Pavilion, Ibán García del Blanco, several architects and experts of recognized prestige have participated.

The Jury has awarded, along with the winner, a prize to each of the other five projects that were finalists: Estudio Carmen Pinos, S.L.P., Selgascano + FRPO, Estudio Herreros, S.L.P., Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos, S.L.P., and Irisarri Piñera Arquitectos.
