Architecture studio Pulso Estudio was commissioned to design "Mateu Obrador," a home renovation project in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca. The project involves a comprehensive rehabilitation of the spaces, reconciling Mallorcan architectural identity with new ways of living.

The intervention is characterized by a restrained and personalized architectural language. Through a selection of materials and spatial strategies, the home recovers elements typical of local architecture, adapting them to the needs of contemporary life and integrating natural light, cross-ventilation, and a connection with the surrounding environment.

The house designed by Pulso Estudio is based on a study of solar orientation. The main living areas, comprising the living room and dining room, along with the two master bedrooms, face southeast to take advantage of natural light, while the kitchen, family room, and secondary bedrooms face northwest, creating cooler and more sheltered spaces.

The renovation highlights materials linked to local tradition. Wood, present in the doorways and interior joinery, adds warmth and texture to the spaces. Likewise, the incorporation of latticework, reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective, filters the light.

Apartment Renovation in Palma (Mallorca, Balearic Islands) 2026
The renovation of this apartment, located in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, is characterized by an approach that blends traditional Mallorcan architecture with contemporary needs for comfort and functionality.

The apartment's layout is the result of a careful study of solar orientation. The living room, dining room, and two main bedrooms face southeast, maximizing natural light and taking advantage of the gentle Mediterranean breezes, while the kitchen, family room, and the other two bedrooms face northwest, offering a cooler environment protected from the intense summer heat. Wood, used in both doorways and interior joinery, adds warmth and texture, creating a welcoming atmosphere that connects with local building traditions.

Another key detail in the renovation is the use of latticework, a typical feature of Mediterranean architecture that filters the light entering from the east and ensures natural, controlled ventilation—a fundamental characteristic of Mallorcan construction for adapting to the local climate. The latticework also provides a visual element that plays with light and shadow throughout the day, creating dynamic atmospheres that change over time.

Overall, this home combines the richness of local materials with contemporary solutions that guarantee a comfortable and sustainable living experience, while respecting the cultural and climatic context of Palma de Mallorca.

The project possesses its own unique and personalized language for a home of a traditional typology that is reinterpreted.
