At the heart of the project undertaken by BAST and LITTORAL, an exterior courtyard articulates and separates the functional program of the house: on one side, the rooms commonly used year-round; on the other, a spacious and flexible annex provides the necessary area for entertaining friends and family.
For its construction, Casa M37 employs a framework of wooden posts and beams supported by a polished concrete slab. A series of frames in the flat roof ensures the even entry of natural light and proper ventilation in each living space. Preserving the original state of the undergrowth, the project presents itself as a flexible domestic retreat that values and takes advantage of the natural beauty of its site.

Project description by BAST + LITTORAL
This house is for a retired couple.
They are settling in a private development on the Atlantic coast. The building's location avoids deforestation in the Landes forest. The land is preserved in its original undergrowth.
The compact design creates its own outdoor space within the built area. This courtyard separates the main house, inhabited year-round, from a guest house for family and friends. Two sliding doors of reinforced glass provide privacy.
The house is built with a timber frame and posts and beams on a polished concrete slab. The roof is a membrane that meets the development's flat roof requirement. The anodized aluminum window frames open only onto the courtyard.
Sunlight allows natural light and ventilation to enter every section of the house. This house stands apart from the development's surroundings to reconnect with the original forest.
