Arquipélago Arquitetos
Arquipélago Arquitetos is a Brazilian architecture studio based in São Paulo, founded in 2013 and led by Luís Tavares and Marinho Velloso, who develops projects at different scales and in multiple fields. Both architects graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP). Tavares completed a master’s degree at the same institution and an exchange program in Lisbon, while Velloso studied abroad at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP). Before establishing their own practice, they collaborated with different offices and took part in architectural competitions.
Some of their most notable works include House in Cunha (2019), Casa Piracaia (2024), House ML in Paraty (2016), Casa AF in Paraty (2022), and the restoration of Cinema da Praça in Paraty (2018). Their projects have received multiple awards, such as first place in the residential category at the 62nd IAB-RJ Annual Awards with Casa Quinta, the IAB-SP 75 Years Award in 2018 with House in Cunha, and an Honourable Mention for Cinema da Praça. In 2024, they were selected to participate in the Latin American Architecture Biennial in Pamplona (BAL), and House in Cunha was nominated for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize.
