Azara Nicolás
Pedro Azara Nicolás (Bois-Colombes, France, 1955). Architect (1982). PhD in Architecture (1986). Associate Professor of Art Theory at the Elisava School of Design in Barcelona (1986–87). Associate Professor of Aesthetics at the School of Optics of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Terrassa (1993–95). Full Professor of Aesthetics at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) (1987–). Head of the Aesthetics Section (1994–). Secretary of the Department of Architectural Composition (1996–1999). Member of the Board of the Barcelona School of Architecture (1994–) and of the Doctoral Committee of the Department of Composition (1996–99).
He has curated several exhibitions, including Les cases de l’ànima (CCCB, Barcelona, 1997), L’última mirada (MACBA, Barcelona, 1997), Abans del diluvi. Mesopotàmia, 3500–2100 aC (CaixaForum, Barcelona, 2012), City of Mirages: Baghdad, from Wright to Venturi (COAC, Casa Árabe, Center for Architecture, Society of Architects, and Riwaq Biennale, Barcelona, Madrid, Boston, New York, and Ramallah, 2008–2012), Mediterranean: From Myth to Reason (CaixaForum, Barcelona and Madrid, 2014), and From Ancient to Modern. Archaeology and Aesthetics (ISAW, New York, 2015).
Azara is also the author of several books, including Imagen y olvido. El arte como engaño en la filosofía de Platón (Image and Oblivion: Art as Deception in Plato’s Philosophy, Siruela, Madrid, 1995) and Castillos en el aire. Mito y arquitectura en Occidente (Castles in the Air: Myth and Architecture in the West, Editorial Gustavo Gili, Barcelona, 2002). As part of his scholarly work, he has participated in several archaeological expeditions in Syria and Iraq.
