Betillon & Freyermuth Architects

Betillon & Freyermuth Architects is a French architecture firm based in Toulouse, founded in 2006 by architects Raphaël Bétillon and Guillaume Freyermuth. From its inception, the firm has defined itself as an architectural laboratory that proposes alternative models, emphasizing the critical exploration of architectural practice and the creation of sensitive and shared spaces.

The firm champions a "mischievous" architecture, understood as a discipline committed to living together and to contemporary culture, where curiosity is an essential value. Its work ranges from theoretical reflection to concrete design interventions, addressing diverse programs from housing to public facilities and experimental projects.

Throughout its history, Betillon & Freyermuth has received several prestigious awards. Among their accolades is the 2024 L’Équerre d’Argent award in the culture, youth, and sports category for the Pôle Multiservices de Laguiole, a project that integrates multiple community functions within a flexible and adaptable building. Previously, in 2020, they received the 40 Under 40 award, and their work has been featured in international events such as the Venice Biennale (contributing to the French Pavilion in 2016).

Their most significant projects include: Le Foirail – Multiservice Center, Laguiole (2024); Natura – 104 straw-insulated dwellings, Toulouse; Spatioport – Space Flight Simulator, Toulouse; and Appartement 05 – a combined apartment building.

Betillon & Freyermuth’s approach is characterized by critical and collaborative work, where each project emerges from a dialogue with the context, the program, and the users. This translates into solutions where formal simplicity coexists with a strong focus on sustainability, adaptability, and the quality of spaces.

Currently, the studio continues to solidify its position as one of the most interesting contemporary voices in French architecture, with a diverse body of work that combines material innovation, conceptual rigor, and social commitment.
