Bullivant

Lucy Bullivant (London, 1958) is a British urban strategist, curator, critic, and author specialising in architecture, urbanism, and placemaking. Trained as a cultural historian, she holds a Master’s degree in Cultural History from the Royal College of Art and later completed a PhD at London Metropolitan University, focusing on the transition from traditional masterplanning to more adaptive forms of urban planning.

Her professional career began in the fields of art and exhibition curating. In the early 1990s, she served as Heinz Curator of Architectural Programmes at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Since then, she has worked internationally with museums, cultural institutions, universities, public authorities, and organisations connected with architecture and design.

In 2010, Bullivant was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in recognition of her contribution to architectural culture. She is the founder and director of Lucy Bullivant & Associates and the creator of Urbanista.org, a platform dedicated to liveable urbanism. Among her publications, Masterplanning Futures (2012) stands out and received the Urban Design Group Book of the Year Award in 2014. Her work combines research, criticism, writing, and curatorial practice, with a particular focus on sustainability, public participation, and urban transformation.
