Rébecca Dautremer is a French illustrator, author, and artist born on 20 August 1971 in Gap, in the Hautes-Alpes region of France. She studied graphic design at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where her training was also shaped by her interest in photography. She began working in editorial illustration while still a student and, from 1996 onward, focused her career mainly on children’s and young adult literature. She gained international recognition through books such as L’Amoureux, Princesses oubliées ou inconnues, Babayaga, and Les Riches Heures de Jacominus Gainsborough. Her style is distinguished by her use of gouache, photographic compositions, dramatic lighting, and carefully constructed characters and settings. In addition to books, she has worked in animation, stage design, advertising, and art direction. In 2009, she worked as art director on the animated film Kérity, la maison des contes. In 2019, she received the Grand Prix de l’Illustration.
