Illiz Architektur was founded in 2008 by Sabrina Mehlan, Petra Meng, and Stefanie Wögrath. Since then, our practice has operated from two locations—Vienna and Zurich—with a dedicated team of around 25 architects. Early on, we had the opportunity to participate in complex and interdisciplinary projects. A spirit of openness to new approaches and the continual exchange of perspectives within a team of specialists proved essential to achieving successful outcomes, and these principles have profoundly shaped our methodology ever since.
Today, our work spans architectural projects of varying scales for both public and private clients. We are active in the fields of education, sports and healthcare, as well as infrastructure and housing. Beyond design, we support municipalities with development studies and contribute to the architectural discourse by serving as jurors in competitions across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Our architecture is always grounded in its context, while confidently expressing its own identity. We place great importance on spatial functionality without compromising on quality and aesthetics. Innovation and sustainability are central to our practice, ensuring that the qualities of each completed building are not only perceptible but long-lasting.
In our daily work, we navigate diverse project requirements and reconcile them with the architectural essence of the building—its composition, structure, and materiality. Each project undergoes a continuous process of questioning and refinement in pursuit of the best possible solution. Collaboration is fundamental to our culture, as is active quality management. Through dialogue with clients, users, and planners, we develop substantial, resilient concepts that form the foundation of a successful planning process.
