Kroupa

Ivan Kroupa (born 19 September 1960 in Kolín) is a Czech architect, designer and university professor. He was the studio director and director of the Institute of Design at the Faculty of Arts of the Czech Technical University in Prague and then the head of the architectural studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. His buildings are characterised by a recognisable minimalist line and interiors that are worked with light.

From 1980 he studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, which he completed in 1985. He subsequently worked at the Interprojekt Prague until [1989, when he left for internships in LondýněLondon, Paris and Barcelona. He started his independent practice in 1990 and founded his own architectural office. He received a grant and from 1992 to 1993 he worked in Germany at the Academy Schloss Solitude Stuttgart. He then worked together with architect Tomáš Novotný. In 1997, the studio was founded by Ivan Kroupa Architekti.

In 2001, he received one of Europe's most important European awards, the Berliner Kunstpreis, Förderungspreis Baukunst. [He began teaching at the Czech Technical University, where he also habilitated. Between 2002 and 2004 there was the head of the studio at the Institute of Design I and subsequently until 2007 the head of the Institute of Design IV. For several reasons, he switched to UMPRUMUMPRUM, where he served as head of the studio Architecture II until 2021, on 31 October 2008, he was appointed professor by President Václav Klaus.

In 2019, he received the Ministry of Culture Award for contributing to architecture.
