Sogo Arquitectos
Lourdes García Sogo (València, 1959) is an architect, doctor and university lecturer, recognized for her contribution to the study of territory and hydraulic infrastructure. With a degree in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), she completed her doctorate at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya under the direction of Ignasi de Solà-Morales, with the thesis "La desembocadura del Turia. Infraestructura hidráulica y territorio", which links history, urbanism and landscape in the Valencian area.
Since 1992 he has directed SOGO ARQUITECTOS, a studio founded with the vocation of integrating architecture, urban planning and engineering in public infrastructures. In 2016 he constituted, together with the architect Antonio Naranjo Espuig, the company LOURDES GARCÍA SOGO & ASOCIADOS, ARCHITECTURE, URBANISM AND INFRASTRUCTURES, S.L.P.
His firm has developed important works, such as the subway stations of line 3 of the Valencia Metro (1994), the Metro Information Center (1994) and the Mirador de Pedreguer (1995). He has also designed wastewater treatment plants (Camp de Túria, 1993; Gandía, 1996) and waste treatment plants (León, Cuenca and Villena, 2000-2002). He has participated in strategic projects such as Hipercatalunya (territorial action plan for Catalonia) and Sociópolis, dedicated to social housing in Valencia.
In recent years, his studio has developed an intense activity in the field of public facilities, especially in the education, health and sports sectors. Among his most outstanding interventions are schools such as CEIP Mare de Déu de Gràcia, CEIP Sibil-la Mercer or IES Patraix; municipal facilities such as the Mutxamel Market and the Cullera Sports Center; as well as primary care facilities, such as the Bétera Auxiliary Medical Clinic. These works reflect an architecture committed to the environment, functional and sensitive to social needs.
Since 1999, she has been a professor in the Department of Architectural Projects at the ETSAV (UPV).
Her work has been highlighted in reference publications, such as the Guide to Architecture in Spain 1920-2000, which highlights her ability to combine historical knowledge, technique and a singular landscape sensibility. His work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the MACBA (Barcelona) and the Architekturzentrum (Vienna), as well as in important international biennials, such as the 2nd Biennial of Valencia and the 5th Biennial of Architecture of São Paulo.
