Bayo Monjas
Sebastián Bayo Monjas (Madrid, 1990) is an architect and visual artist. He grew up in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he first encountered the art world at the School of Arts and Crafts and the Montehermoso Cultural Center.
In 2008, he moved to Madrid to study Architecture at the CEU San Pablo University, where he graduated with the Outstanding Award of his class. During his studies, he co-founded the Micras collective, where he developed installations and performances focused on the sensitive and corporeal dimension of architectural space. He also collaborated with artists such as Luis Úrculo, launching his interdisciplinary approach between art and architecture.
After completing his studies, he worked in London as an architect at Tonkin Liu Architects, where he began his artistic career as an exhibitionist in 2016, with the exhibition "Expressions" at the Crown House Gallery. Upon his return to Spain, he began a sustained production that balances his professional career as an architect with his artistic practice, which he complemented with advanced studies in sculptural techniques at the La Palma Art School.
His most recent artistic projects include the proposal UTOPÍA, No Entry, winner of the Onsite Mugak/ competition, as part of the fifth Basque Country Architecture Biennial, as well as the solo exhibition "Márgenes" (Margins) (2025) at the Official College of Architects of Vitoria-Gasteiz, and his participation in the group exhibition "Stop Drawing" at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, in collaboration with designer and artist Raquel Buj. He also collaborated with Raquel Buj during his stay at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome in 2023.
In 2024, he was a finalist in the AD Creators Awards and won the "Pensar la Ciudad" competition (AUR platform) with his work "Antropoceno." In 2022, he held the solo exhibitions "Escombros" at the La Palma Art School in Madrid and "Crap" at the White Lab gallery.
Currently, Sebastián directs the design studio Nooba and collaborates as project coordinator at the Métrica Mínima workshop, while continuing to develop a coherent and expanded body of work that straddles the boundaries between art, design, and architecture.
