BLUR is an architecture, design, and construction practice founded in 2022 in Quito, Ecuador. We are a studio with a vocation for and an experimental approach (intuition, hypothesis, research, experimentation, and on-site verification). Our work seeks to capture people's imagination, improve their quality of life, and build the identity of the institutions we serve.
BLUR was born from three initial intuitions that architecture offered us: the dialectical opposition between matter and form; the need to take the mechanical behavior of structures to their ultimate consequences—as a means of revealing the nature of matter and gauging the pulse of the local industry; and finally, to give our projects the spatial, scenographic quality inherent in theater. These intuitions are autobiographical and serve as the pretextual condition that the artist imprints on their work.
Subsequently, we contrast this view with the idea of practicing our profession as something separate from pretextual and autobiographical conditions, limited to solving practical and technical spatial problems, which then lead to questions about aesthetics and beauty as a result rather than a quest.
