estudioUAD
EstudioUAD is an architecture practice founded by Juan José Martínez Altamira in 1977. The studio is currently led by Juan José Martínez Rodríguez (1979) and Eduardo Martínez Rodríguez (1984). Both are architects from the Las Palmas School of Architecture and work in the studio, a space for research and practice whose production inhabits a hybrid space at the intersection of Architecture, Biopoetics, and Semiotics in the context of Living Systems.
Juan José Martínez Rodríguez, PhD in Architecture with a European distinction from the ULPGC (2016) and Master's degree in Parametric Design and Digital Manufacturing (2021), is a professor of Architectural Design at the Las Palmas School of Architecture and conducts his research within the framework of Cognitive Sciences, Semiotics, and Complex Systems. His theoretical work has been presented at various international universities—Aarhus, Bangor, Adam Mickiewicz (Poznan), and Southern Denmark (Odense)—and published in academic journals and specialized conferences.
Eduardo Martínez Rodríguez has extensive technical and design experience linked to the field of hotel and large-scale architecture, with an international track record in the development and execution of tourist complexes in the Caribbean and Latin America. He has served as a consulting architect on unique projects such as the Renovation and Extension of the Casa Palacio del Cabildo in Gran Canaria by Alejandro de la Sota, and has also been responsible for comprehensive projects for large resorts in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Aruba.
Estudio UAD's work straddles the boundary between theoretical research and material practice, exploring how living structures, complex systems, and cognitive semiotics can inform new design strategies. His work has been awarded several architecture prizes: Hotel SILKEN SAAJ (2019, Hotels & Tourism Fitur Awards), Hotel SILKEN SAAJ MAAR (2025, Hotels & Tourism Fitur Awards), and Employment Office (2025, IV Miguel Martín-Fernández de La Torre Architecture Award, new construction other uses category).
