André Rocha is a Portuguese artist and architect, born in Ponte de Lima in 1979, with a passion for drawing both real and imagined cities. He graduated in 2005 from the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, where his final thesis explored the architectural evolution of cinemas in Portugal. He later completed an internship with architect José Fernando Gonçalves, with whom he continued to collaborate until 2008.
Alongside his architectural practice, he developed a strong interest in drawing, cartooning, and urbanism through his blogs. This work led to his involvement in the opening sequence of the television programme Público Imobiliário and to the selection of two of his cartoons for the 10th PortoCartoon World Festival, dedicated to the theme of human rights.
In collaboration with architect António Ildefonso, he was awarded third prize in the international GoCivic competition, organised by the Municipality of Prato, Italy, and fourth place in a competition for a new educational institution in Vagos. He regards architectural competitions as opportunities for research, experimentation, and the development of innovative responses to a wide range of architectural programmes.
His artwork is held in private collections in Portugal, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He currently lives in Ponte de Lima, where he founded André Rocha A+D+I.
