Villanueva

Xavier Villanueva is an architect specializing in restoration and conservation and a member of the Casa Batlló restoration team. Since 2013, he has directed the conservation and rehabilitation work on Casa Batlló, Antoni Gaudí's masterpiece, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Under his coordination, the building's Master Plan has been developed, along with various restoration interventions on the façade, the main floor, and other historic spaces within the building.

Villanueva has worked alongside a multidisciplinary team comprised of architects, technical architects, engineers, and restorers, distinguished by a methodology based on historical research, stratigraphic studies, and the revival of original artisanal techniques.

In 2019, he publicly explained that the objective of the interventions at Casa Batlló was "to recover as much of the building's original character as possible and preserve the natural deterioration of the external elements," restoring the colour scheme and materiality conceived by Gaudí in 1906.
