Altura Arquitectes is an architecture studio born at an altitude of 2,488 meters in the heart of the Pyrenees, the result of a collaboration on the l’Illa Guarded Refuge project in 2013. That work in an extreme environment with high technical demands gave rise to an approach to architecture based on respect for the land, constructive restraint, and authenticity in every design decision, which led to the creation of Altura Arquitectes in 2019.
They approach projects from the traditional values of the mountains: an honest architecture rooted in the land, that acknowledges existing structures, integrates naturally into the environment, uses resources consciously, and responds passively to climatic conditions.
In each project, they adopt a cross-cutting vision capable of generating innovative solutions to the needs of contemporary society. They are committed to sustainable architecture that integrates human activity into the Pyrenean landscape with sensitivity towards the environment and the well-being of its users.
They work at all scales of the project, from a small plaza to a multi-family building, with the conviction that every intervention can influence how people live and their relationship with the environment. They understand architecture as a tool for responsible transformation, capable of improving people's well-being and strengthening their connection to the land.
