KRI

KRI is an architecture studio founded in 2020 by Gonzalo Peña Sancho (Madrid,1989). He graduated as an architect from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2015 and teaches in the Department of Architectural Design at Universidad CEU San Pablo in Madrid. Before establishing his independent practice, he worked with EMBT – Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue in Barcelona in 2012 and with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel from 2016 to 2020.

KRI is an interdisciplinary platform that explores architecture through history and human behaviour. Its work has been recognised with the 2026 FAD Award for Ephemeral Interventions, the 2026 La Casa de la Arquitectura Award in the Ephemeral category, the 2025 FAD International Award, and an award at the 17th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. The studio has also received several distinctions in national and international competitions, including Europan 16 and 17, first prize for the remodelling of Plaza del 2 de Mayo, and third prizes for proposals for the Real Academia de España in Rome and Matadero de Aranjuez.

In parallel, KRI develops curatorial work focused on the links between territory, culture, and architecture. Its work has been exhibited at the Sala de Arte Joven of the Community of Madrid and Sala Amadís (INJUVE), and the studio has collaborated with several academic institutions, including ETSAM, the Basque Country Architecture Institute, and IE School of Architecture and Design.
