MDBA
María Díaz (Bilbao, 1972) is the founding architect of MDBA. With over 15 years of experience, including collaborations with Vicente Guallart, she now leads a young team of architects, designers, and professionals from various disciplines.
The studio develops both new construction and restoration projects, overseeing all phases of the process, from initial concept to execution. This includes integrating architecture, interior design, landscaping, graphic design, and furniture design, with particular attention to technical, budgetary, and regulatory aspects.
MDBA promotes architecture that is committed to the local context and geared towards fostering self-sufficient development models. Each project is understood as a unique challenge, requiring the interpretation of the client's needs and the maximization of the potential of the site or existing spaces. The search for the essence of each intervention translates into a special sensitivity towards materiality, craftsmanship, and the creation of spaces with identity and "soul."
In parallel, the studio is developing MDBY..., a platform dedicated to exploring the references and inspirations that fuel its daily practice, giving visibility to artists and artisans whose work establishes connections between art, craft, and contemporary creation.
