'Light and architecture: air', held on 8 July at the Roca Madrid Gallery is the first lecture of ISLAND, a series of three sessions that will talk about light and its role as a generator of the XXI century architecture as part of the 'Cátedra Luz y Arquitectura' directed by Jose Luis Esteban Penelas.

ISLAND is a lecture series moderated by José Luis Esteban Penelas and organized by Universidad Europea and Philips, in collaboration with Roca, focused on light, architecture and new design, as part of the International Light Year, designated by the UN for this year 2015.

ISLAND is presented as a series of debates that pretends to think about light as generator of architecture in the twenty-first century and seeks to establish a criticism of its position in the present city.

It is divided into three sessions - Air, Future and Dreaming - in which proposals will provide "a new understanding of architecture generated by the liquid mutability of today's cities, it will be set a critical reflection about the future of architectures produced in super modern globalized cities, where light is one of its strongest generators."

This action is part of the 'Cátedra Luz y Arquitectura', announced last January. The Cátedra was born in order to generate knowledge and future proposals in the field of innovation applied to the world of lighting. It also aims to establish links of cooperation and dissemination activities based on the importance of light in the generation of indoor and outdoor environments that improve the quality of people's life.
