Hoy han sido anunciados los Premios RIBA con dos proyectos galardonados:
- Astley Castle por Witherford Watson Mann Architects con el RIBA Stirling Prize 2013.
- Cooled Conservatories, Gardens por the Bay con el RIBA Lubetkin Prize 2013.

Los premios RIBA han venido otorgándose continuamente desde 1966 y son fallados y presentados localmente.
No importa la forma, el tamaño, presupuesto o localización, el premio RIBA dicta los estándares de buena arquitectura en todo el país.
Los premios RIBA en el Reino Unido son para edificios hechos por Arquitectos Miembros del RIBA y para Socios Internacionales del RIBA. Los ganadores del premio RIBA a nivel regional, conocido como RIBA Hadrian Award en el norte y este de Inglaterra, pasan a formar parte de los premios RIBA. Y los ganadores del premio RIBA son considerados para el RIBA Stirling Prize.
Los premios RIBA en la Unión Europea son para edificios únicamente construidos por arquitectos miembros del RIBA. Los ganadores son también pre-seleccionados para el RIBA Stirling Prize.

This sensitive scheme places the new building at the heart of the old, demonstrating creativity, preservation and conservation.
In a 12th century fortified manor, further damaged by fire in 1978, the architects have created a new house that allows Landmark Trust guests to experience life in a near thousand-year-old castle with distinctly 21st century mod cons.
Astley Castle demonstrates that working within sensitive historic contexts requires far more than the specialist skills of the conservation architect: this is an important piece of architecture, beautifully detailed and crafted. The decision to put the bedrooms and bathrooms on the groundfloor and the communal spaces above makes the experience of the house very special as perhaps the most impressive spaces are the outdoor Tudor and Jacobean ruins.

The Gardens by the Bay are an outstanding example of sustainability in action, not only representing best practice but also communicating important messages about these issues to a wide public.
Two contrasting glasshouses covering more than two hectares (making them the biggest climate-controlled greenhouses in the world) feature a dry Mediterranean climate in the shallow inverted bowl, and a cooler, moist environment in the conical structure complete with a ‘mountain’ down which a waterfall descends, raising humidity levels and supporting the lush vertical planting – and a helical walk that winds in and out of a series of exhibitions about climate change.
Both biomes comprise a superstructure of radial steel ribs paired with a steel gridshell forming the substructure. Low-energy glass lets in 64% of the light but admits only 38% of the corresponding solar gain.
Procedimiento del jurado:
Cada región nombra un panel con los arquitectos pre-seleccionados que cumplen todos los requisitos para después reunirse y dar una lista de edificios a ser visitados por el jurado regional.
Cada año un nuevo jurado regional es nombrado conjuntamente por el Awards Group y las Naciones (Escocia, Irlanda del Norte y Gales). Cada jurado regional está compuesto de:
— Un representante regional que es nombrado por dicha región o nación.
— Un asesor legal de varias disciplinas que es nombrado por el Awards Group y un arquitecto que preside el panel de pre-seleccionados.
— Un consejero especialista en conservación y sostenibilidad para ayudar junto con el jurado regional.
Las visitas de los proyectos pre-seleccionados conllevan hablar con los clientes y usuarios y evaluar la excelencia del diseño.
El jurado se fija en:
— Concisión
— Calidad en el detalle.
— Invención / Originalidad.
— Sostenibilidad.
— Factores sociales.
— 'Firmeza, comodidad y delicadeza'.
— Presupuesto.
— Tamaño.
— Tipo de contrato.
— Satisfacción del cliente.
