The architects Alejandra Navarrete and Jaime Yndurain have designed a mobile and flexible system for the Ibero-American Art Museum, in the Cisneros Building that is part of the Alcalá University.
The modular system, which multiplies the possible exhibition configurations of the museum, has a light triangular structure that offers the minimum solid surface necessary for the exhibition panels, obtaining greater visibility and reducing the footprint on the ground.

Project description by Alejandra Navarrete and Jaime Yndurain

The Ibero-American Art Museum occupies 1,200m² of the ground floor of the Cisneros Building that is part of the Alcalá University. The museum's exhibition design takes as its starting point the architectural interventions that have been made throughout the history of the building. The project is understood as an additional layer that coexists with the different historical elements: from its Christian foundations, including also the expansions that turned it into a military headquarters, to the contemporary renovation of the museum.

The project consists of a mobile and flexible system that multiplies the possible exhibition configurations of the museum. A light triangular structure offers the minimum solid surface necessary for the exhibition panels, obtaining greater visibility of the different historical layers, and reducing the footprint on the ground and archaeological ruins.

The design proposes a geometry that serves both to articulate the perimeter of the gallery room and to create an alternative exhibition surface in the center of the space, providing additional linear meters for works of art. While directing the user's movement throughout the gallery, the modules also offer an oblique dialogue between works of art and the audience.
