Morton Subotnick Morton Subotnick (Los Angeles, 1933) is one of the 'fathers' of electronic music. He is the author of the first purely electronic album of history, Silver Apples of The Moon (1967). He was also one of the founders of San Francisco Tape Music Center together with Ramon Sender, pioneer in the development of new techniques for audio processing in the 60 and 70, and who produced one of the first synthesizers: the Buchla. His career as a composer continues to this day.
In this concert, Morton Subotnick will be accompanied by visual artist Lillevan, a regular contributor to other musicians in the experimental electronic scene (like Fennesz and Vladislav Delay), who will perform a visual reinterpretation key Subotnick's music. The concert will hear pieces of Silver Apples Of The Moon and other pioneers of his albums, A Sky of cloudless Sulfur (1978).
Before the concert and as an introduction, Morton Subotnick will give a lecture in which he will tour the origins of electronic music and his long career. Finally, on leaving the auditorium, a student at the Red Bull Music Academy, Anenon, perform a DJ session which will relate to the current music of Morton Subotnick.
The concert From silver to the sky. A look at the roots of electronics: Morton Subotnick & Lillevan programming is part of Red Bull Music Academy, an annual gathering of promising artists and big names in music history, which this year takes place in Madrid between 23 October and 25 November in various venues in the city.
