After the glamor of Oscar night, (Everyone know that "Argo," directed by Ben Affleck, has won the Oscar for Best Picture. Or Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook." Or Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for Best Actor for the title role in "Lincoln."... “Life of Pi,” won four trophies, including the best director honor for Ang Lee. “Les Misérables” joined “Argo” in taking home three awards, and “Django Unchained” was honored with two, including one for Quentin Tarantino for best original screenplay), now comes the hangover and we have remembered this exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York, "Dark and Deadpan: Pop in TV and the movies".

DARK AND DEADPAN: POP IN TV AND THE MOVIES
From Andy Warhol’s commercial for Schrafft’s restaurants to Sherman Price’s film The Imp-Probable Mr. Weegee, starring Weegee as a crazy photographer, footage of the moon landing, and George Kuchar’s mock Hollywood melodrama HOLD ME WHILE I’M NAKED, this exhibition brings together rarely seen films, advertisements, and political campaign messages that reflect the extravagant yet deadpan excess of Pop. Together they reveal the central role played by television and cinema in articulating the excitement, anxiety, and desire underlying both Pop art and popular culture in the 1960s.
Dark and Deadpan is organized by Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator Chrissie Iles, and curator Jay Sanders.
