After introducing the ten DETAILERS male visions we proposed from METALOCUS, here we bring you 10 magnificent female views on how to deal with the details. All are framed within the context of the 2nd Detailers meeting, organized by SIMON, which will take place this Thursday at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

In the week of the 2nd Detailers meeting in Madrid in METALOCUS, we are proposing a revision of architects and artists on work detail. To give rise to reflection we are taking part in proposing examples of how to face the world of detail from different viewpoints debate. First, male DETAILERS, as we have presented previously. Now it's up to them, women detailers; Lina Bo Bardi, Ray Eames, Charlotte Perriand, Denise Scott Brown, Eileen Gray, Marguerite Wildenhain, Petra Blaisse, Kazuyo Sejima, Neri Oxman, Jule Waibel, Benedetta Tagliabue, Paula Bonet...

The event, organized by SIMON, will take place next Thursday, February 19th at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and will be attended by figures such as Carlos Ferrater, Fermín Vázquez or Oscar Marine, who will share their personal experiences in the world of the details with attendees.

And you? are you a 'detailer'?

  • "There is a taste of victory and charm in being simple. Being much doesn't take much."

Lina Bo Bardi.

  • "Choose your corner, pick away at it carefully, intensely and to the best of your ability and that way you might change the world."

Ray Eames.

  • “The extension of the art of dwelling is the art of living - living in harmony with man’s deepest drives and with his adopted or fabricated environment."

Charlotte Perriand.

  • "Architects can’t force people to connect, it can only plan the crossing points, remove barriers, and make the meeting places useful and attractive."

Denise Scott Brown.

  • "The poverty of modern architecture stems from the atrophy of sensuality. Everything is dominated by reason in order to create amazement without proper research. We must mistrust pictorial elements if they are not assimilated by instinct. It is not a matter of simply constructing beautiful ensembles of lines, but above all, dwellings for people."

Eileen Gray.

  • "Today I feel that it is increasingly more important to stress again the value of the way of life of a craftsman and to try to educate young people to a basic understanding of what is the essence of a life dedicated to an idea that is not based on success and money, but on human independence and dignity…. I believe that pots are just as good or bad as the potter who makes them; the person making the pots is the key to the quality of the pot, not any technique or any big flashy 'new' tricks."

Marguerite Wildenhain.

  • "In my mind the organization of space inside or outside is similar. It is about fluidity and movement, how you can efficiently go from one place to another, or how you can meander, take time and encounter surprises; or how you can create an extra room with one simple movement. Different routes and actions trigger different experiences. So both are about time, speed, organized views and perspectives and – of course – need special effects to trigger the notion of a changing landscape, whether inside or out."

Petra Blaisse.

  • "I move towards extreme simplicity." Interview to El País, 16th November, 2008.

Kazuyo Sejima.

  • "When exploring an integrated design approach that seeks to overlap with, and operate across, multiple fields design becomes innovative, richer, and more capable of broad impact. Design, ultimately, is about an ability to work through constraints."

Neri Oxman.

  • "Aesthetics have always been a really important part of my work. I’m fascinated by the beauty of the folds, especially in motion when they expand and contract. It adds emotion, surprise and humour, all sensations beyond the expected and predictable."

Jule Waibel.

  • "What I like most is how elements are related to one another. And the position. There are many stories in a portrait. Many. The lines on the face which tell if someone worries too much, the skin shows the passing of time..."

Paula Bonet. Interview in Divinity, 10th of March of 2014.
