Sic97 was created based on the admiration for the objects designed by Elmar Thome (Mayen 1964 – Barcelona 2005) in the late 1980s. Thome sculpted small pieces full of poetry with the intention of introducing them in everyday use.
Not much is known about this worthy artist. He was a sculptor who worked mainly with robust materials such as iron and wood, expressing great strength and fragility at the same time. In his later years he worked as a designer. His early death left us with few pieces of his work as a designer, which have been recovered by Sic97 and are now available online.
After disappearing from catalogues for ten years, sic97 is now releasing these pieces again, adapted to current manufacturing processes. To start this new business venture, they present the ET Bathroom Accessories Collection and the Toma lamp, two works that prove Thome's great talent and potential.
From here, sic97 will continue to add timeless and fascinating industrial designs. Their philosophy pays full respect to the original design, materials and final handling.
Elmar Thome was born on May 2nd, 1964 in Mayen, Germany, and raised in Deggendorf, Bavaria. He was a self-taught sculptor, moved to Barcelona in 1985, and lived and developed his work in this city until his early death in 2005. He was married for 18 years to photographer Anna Oswaldo Cruz and had no children.
