Zooco architecture studio was commissioned with a special project: the new Regma ice cream parlor and café, founded in 1933,  in the center of Santander, Spain.

Regma ice cream is an institution for both locals and occasional visitors. If someone makes you a recommendation about what to do or see in Santander, it will always include visiting one of their ice cream shops. Their fame is so great that years ago they even dared to open a branch in Madrid, which, for those of us who don't visit Santander every year, is the best reminder of their good work.

Zooco Estudio's design aims to create a sensorial experience that reinforces the company's identity, conceptually rooted in Regma's hallmarks, which are characterised by the naturalness of its ingredients and its avoidance of artificial elements. The development of abstract geometries complements these concepts.

The colors and textures adhere to these hallmarks through the use of noble and natural materials, such as travertine marble, oak, clay paint, and the occasional incorporation of stainless steel. Through colors, textures, and geometries inspired by the product, the client is immersed in Regma's universe abstractly and subliminally.

A New Image for Regma, Santander
Regma, the iconic Cantabrian ice cream brand founded in 1933, entrusted us with the design of their new premises on Calle Burgos in Santander. This space aims to complement the brand’s ongoing graphic and aesthetic transformation with a fresh visual identity.

Our goal was to translate Regma’s core values into the architectural language of the space in a tangible yet understated manner—eschewing literal or obvious references.

Concept and Identity
Regma is a familiar name to us, a longstanding reference in northern Spain. The brand emphasised its two key values: the natural quality of its ingredients and its distinctive, unpretentious use of colour.

These attributes, combined with a geometric abstraction inspired by the world of ice cream, form the conceptual backbone of our design.

To bring this vision to life, we developed the interior around a key geometric element: the rotated square, or diamond shape. This motif is applied consistently across ceilings, floors, and the façade, crafting a unique visual identity throughout the space.

Materiality and Textural
Palette The material palette draws inspiration from the colours and textures of Regma’s most emblematic ice cream flavours, reinterpreted through noble, natural materials such as travertine marble, oak wood and clay-based paint.

To this triad, we added stainless steel—an essential material in cold storage—maintaining a direct connection to traditional ice cream craftsmanship.

The result is a space that immerses the customer in Regma’s universe abstractly and subliminally. Through colour, texture and geometry inspired by the product and the brand’s heritage, we deliver a sensorial experience that reinforces Regma’s identity and its ongoing evolution.

Zooco Estudio is a young architectural firm founded in 2008 by Miguel Crespo Picot, Javier Guzmán Benito and Sixto Martín Martínez, with head offices in Madrid and Santander. Zooco Estudio´s philosophy is facing each project, from interior interventions to large structures building, through the same creative process.

Developing projects with different scales, they realize that architectural decisions are always the same: to create spaces that give response to needs and environment, always based on the generation of a clear concept as the base of the project.

This vision of architecture and the flexibility to adapt to different projects, has made them understand practice at a time of social and economic crisis.

Zooco Estudio tries to project with fine materials and simple shapes to achieve a timeless and functional aesthetic. They always search for neutral spaces and projects that last over the years. With this objective, they combine the research into new materials and systems, with the knowledge of traditional processes.

Throughout their professional career they have won different prizes and contests, among which the Civic Cultural Center of Soto de la Marina (Cantabria) and the Performing Arts Center in Verín (Galicia). They combine large-scale works with the creation and renovation of spaces in the contract, retail and residential sectors, highlighting projects such as the restaurant La Maruca, Orgaz and Atrapallada, or hotels such as Hotel Azul or Flamingo.
