In the evening. Open-air projections by PHotoEspaña

Fundación Banco Sabadell and PHotoEspaña invite four visual artists to carry out several works for this programme, which presents a series of works projected on unusual supports located at several different points in Madrid. Trees, façades of buildings and the urban structures of some of the Festival’s most emblematic places become open-air exhibition sites, providing the invited public and chance visitors with a stunning gallery of images.

For this occasion, Julien Nonnon reveals a sample of his work, which is essentially articulated around interaction with architecture and urban elements; Daniel Canogar presents an interactive projection following the guidelines of video-installation and public intervention; Javier Riera explores the relationships between nature and geometry through light interventions on the landscape; and Louise Mackenzie shows her interest in living matter and in relationships with the environment through a work that is based on the creating of installations, sculptures, performances, sounds and projections.

JULIEN NONNON

Julien Nonnon. Visual artist and founding member of Le3 creative studio, his works essentially articulates the interaction of his creations with the architecture and urban elements surrounding him. This process has successfully brought numerous artistic projects to completion, combining Street-Art, kinetic installations, digital creations and Video-Mapping. Showing the desire to see his works in the street, he developed his own tools allowing him therefore to project his creations in any location that inspires him.

DANIEL CANOGAR

Daniel Canogar (Madrid, 1964) received an M.A. from NYU and the International Center for Photography in 1990. His work as a visual artist focuses on photograpy, video, and installation art.

Daniel Canogar has created numerous public art pieces, including Waves, a permanent sculptural LED screen for the atrium of 2 Houston Center, Houston; Travesías, a sculptural LED screen commissioned for the atrium of the European Union Council in Brussels during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union in 2010; Constelaciones, the largest photo-mosaic in Europe created for two pedestrian bridges over the Manzanares River, in MRío Park, Madrid; Helix, a permanent LED sculptural screen made for Quantum of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship andClandestinos, a video-projection presented on various emblematic monuments including the Arcos de Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid and the church of San Pietro in Montorio in Rome.

His recent work includes Storming Times Square, screened on 47 of the LED billboards in Times Square, New York; “Small Data”, a solo exhibition at bitforms, New York, and Max Estrella Gallery in Madrid; “Quadratura”, a solo exhibition at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Lima; “Vórtices”, an exhibition exploring issues of water and sustainability at the Fundación Canal Isabel II in Madrid;Synaptic Passage, an installation commissioned for the exhibition "Brain: The Inside Story" at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and two installations at the Sundance Film Festival 2011 in Park City, Utah.

He has exhibited in the Reina Sofia Contemporary Art Museum, Madrid; the Palacio Velázquez, Madrid; Max Estrella Gallery, Madrid; bitforms Gallery, New York; Filomena Soares Gallery, Lisbon; Guy Bärtschi Gallery, Geneva; Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea, Milano; the Santa Mónica Art Center, Barcelona; the Alejandro Otero Museum, Caracas; the Wexner Center for the Arts, Ohio; the Offenes Kulturhaus Center for Contemporary Art, Linz; the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfallen, Düsseldorf; Hamburger Banhof Museum, Berlin; Borusan Contemporary Museum, Istanbul; the American Museum of Natural History, New York; the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh and the Mattress Factory Museum, Pittsburgh.

LOUISE MACKENZIE

Louise Mackenzie is a UK based artist creating installation, sculpture, performance, sound and film works. With a focus on living material, she is interested in the relationships between medium, sound, image and text, attempting to find ways in which these can be connected to produce unexpected results.

Recent projects have included an audio-visual installation relating the microbiological to the cosmological for Lumiere Durham 2015, a bio art installation with Newcastle University School of Marine Science and Technology, revealing the sublime in cyanobacteria and a micro-residency with Lancaster University exploring social communication in bacteria.

Louise received the New Graduate Award at Synthesis, Manchester Science Festival, 2013 and was shortlisted for the Bio Art & Design Awards, 2015 in The Netherlands. She is currently recipient of post-graduate research funding from BxNU Institute of Contemporary Art, a Northumbria University and BALTIC partnership, to explore the agency of the organism within fine art practice.

JAVIER RIERA

Javier Riera Born in Aviles, Asturias Javier Riera lives and works in Madrid. It is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the relationship between nature and geometry through interventions on the landscape lighting. His work has been exhibited in venues such as the MUSAC, the DA2, the Niemeyer Center or the Reina Sofia Museum.
