Collecting, gathering and overlaying layers of hundreds of similar souveniers photos, from iconic places, Vionnet created these images that raise questions about representation, memory of places, but especially emphasizing the mimetic status of our visual language , against the idea of uniqueness.
"We travel, we see a monument, and we take a picture. But, we are millions who travel, millions who see this monument, and millions who take the same picture."
Corinne Vionnet, Swiss French photographer an artist was born in 1969 and based in Switzerland. At the core of her artistic practice are topographical themes such as the social interaction between nature and humankind.
Her work has been exhibited at Les Rencontres d'Arles, France; the Chelsea Art Museum, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver; Fotomuseum, Belgium; Photo Center NW, Seattle; the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lausanne. It has also featured in numerous publications, including PDN, The British Journal of Photography, Yvi, spot and the Humble Arts Foundation’s The Collector’s Guide to New Art Photography. In 2010, she was selected as one of Photolucida’s Critical Mass top 50 photographers. She took second place in the 2008 Culturas Languages; Zeros and Ones in Madrid, and received an honorable mention from the Santa Fe Center for Photography in the "Singular Image" category.
