Ayer se conoció que el jurado del Premio Pritzker de Arquitectura denegaba la petición a favor de la revisión para Denise Scott Brown. El jurado del Premio Pritzker no volverá a revisar su decisión de excluir a la arquitecta Denise Scott Brown en el premio de 1991 concedido a su socio estudio y esposo, Robert Venturi, con quien trabajó conjuntamente.

Arielle Assouline-Lichten y Caroline James, dos estudiantes de la Harvard Graduate School of Design habían iniciado una petición "on line" pidiendo a los miembros que administran el premio más importante de la arquitectura que reconsiderase esa decisión. No es difícil entender la solidaridad con la campaña a favor del Pritzker de Denise Scott Brown, el caso ha puesto de relieve la condición y reconocimiento que se da a las mujeres en el campo.

Denise Scott Brown respondió con cierta acritud: "Creo que va a ser conocido como el premio de los tristes y viejos hombres blancos".

Dear Arielle Assouline-Lichten and Caroline James,

Thank you for sending your petitions and letters, and those of others, about Ms. Denise Scott Brown and the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Insofar as you have in mind a retroactive award of the prize to Ms. Scott Brown, the present jury cannot do so. Pritzker juries, over time, are made up of different individuals, each of whom does his or her best to find the most highly qualified candidate. A later jury cannot re-open, or second guess the work of an earlier jury, and none has ever done so.

Let us assure you, however, that Ms. Scott Brown remains eligible for the Pritzker Award. That award is given on the basis of an architect’s total body of built work. Ms. Scott Brown has a long and distinguished career of architectural accomplishment. It will be up to present and future juries to determine who among the many architects practicing throughout the world receives future awards. Not every knowledgeable observer always agrees with the jury’s selection. But the jury will continue to do its best to select solely upon the basis of the quality of the architect’s record.

That said, we should like to thank you for calling directly to our attention a more general problem, namely that of assuring women a fair and equal place within the profession. To provide that assurance is, of course, an obligation embraced by every part of the profession, from the schools that might first encourage students to enter the profession to the architectural firms that must facilitate the ability of women to fulfill their potential as architects. We believe that one particular role that the Pritzker Jury must fulfill, in this respect, is that of keeping in mind the fact that certain recommendations or discussions relating to architectural creation are often a reflection of particular times or places, which may reflect cultural biases that underplay a woman’s role in the creative process. Where this occurs, we must, and we do, take such matters into account.

Your communications remind us of this obligation, and we appreciate your sending them. Insofar, however, as they ask us to reopen the decision-making process of a previous jury, we cannot do so.

En 2013 el jurado del Premio Pritzker de Arquitectura está formado por Mr. Peter Palumbo (Presidente), Alejandro Aravena, Stephen Breyer, Yung Ho Chang, Kristin Feireiss, Glenn Murcutt, Juhani Pallasmaa, Ratan N. Tata. Martha Thorne es la Directora Ejecutiva.

Los miembros del jurado lo son durante varios años para asegurar un equilibrio entre los miembros actuales y los nuevos, encargandose de la selección del premio cada año. Ni hay observadores externos, ni miembros de la familia Pritzker están presentes durante las deliberaciones del jurado y votaciones. Denise Scott Brown, (born as Denise Lakofski) (Nkana, Rhodesia, October 3rd 1931) is a postmodern architect, urbanist, writer and teacher. Expert in urban and educational planning at universities such as Berkeley, Yale and Harvard, she wrote in 1972 in collaboration with Robert Venturi and Steven Izenour Learning from Las Vegas: the forgotten symbolism of architectural form, one of the most influential books in architecture in the second half of the twentieth century. It is considered the most famous woman architect of the second half of the twentieth century. She married Robert Venturi in 1967 and they have worked together since 1969, but in 1991 she was excluded from the Pritzker Prize prompting protests and debates about the difficulties of women architects to be recognized in their profession. Finally, they were awarded jointly with the AIA Gold Medal 2016 becoming the second woman in history to win the most prestigious award in the world of architecture and the first living woman to receive this galardón. She is a member of the architectural Studio Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates of Philadelphia (USA), which in 2012, following the retirement of Venturi, became VSBA Architects & Planners.
