Distorting perception. Familiar by Agnes Obel

In 2016 Danish singer Agnes Obel released the album "Citizen of Glass", to which the song "Familiar" belongs, which she wrote, recorded, and produced herself.

The songs in the entire album explore the concept of a "citizen of glass", which is described by the artist as a personal inquiry into the fragility and transparency of the human being in the times in which we live, so that transparency is always present in our identity and our way in relating to each other as if we were made of glass.

Agnes Obel's song follows the theme of the album from the perspective of personality, stating that the idea that our personality is permanent is false and that it changes depending on the context. This idea is expressed through the use of two different tones of the same voice, one natural and the other modulated much lower, creating a ghost that sings with her.

The video clip for "Familiar" has a futuristic aesthetic created thanks to a LED screen that shows distorted images, evidencing the presence of this spectral entity. In this way, we can see urban scenes mixed with ghostly figures or gears of machinery. The song is also known for appearing on the series "Dark".
