Description of the project by Ruíz Barbarín Arquitectos
The original building stood out as an austere, hard concrete landmark. Located on a strategic spot and visible for thousands of drivers that travel through the M-30 road, the new headquarters required a comprehensive refurbishment that ensured the achievement of adequate energy efficiency levels. Moreover, its importance had to be strongly reflected by the exterior aesthetics, meaning to introduce it as a reference spot in Madrid.
The new façade provides a modern and dynamic solution with 2 skins: External illumination is presented as the definitive integrating element among both skins. While diurnal illumination shows a solid, opaque building, nocturnal lighting results of a rigorous research on intensity and opacity levels, enables a visual fading of the external façade. Therefore, as the first skin is presented in form of a coloured gradient, the external façade gradually shades away, melting with the inner colours, until the first skin is completely visible.
