PREAMBLE
Guaranteeing the best quality of life for people, as well as the most exquisite care of our natural and cultural heritage, is required in architecture and urban planning, in everything related to the materialization of construction, new or rehabilitated, and its use; a rigorous and sensitive conception, as well as exciting and cultivated.
Architects, in collaboration with various technical or professional agents, and in accordance with the guarantees required by regulations and the requirements of collective well-being, meet these needs through architecture and urban planning projects. Through research, the project, and the construction process that materializes it, they contribute to creating forms of social and human relationships.
The architectural and urban project, its foundation, process, and result, must assume today, in a context of universal solidarity, a strict requirement of sustainability and proximity of the building and urbanization processes, for the new and for the updating of what already exists, in its triple environmental-cultural, social and economic dimension.
The XI Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, after the brilliant development of the previous edition, which was able to illustrate and highlight the positive results of two decades of Spanish architecture, addresses the current scenario with a specific sensitivity toward what is next and what is necessary. Proximate and necessary as nuclear ingredients of an architectural and urban project that must be the beginning and reflection of research, technical, cultural, and social processes. Nearby and necessary today, future in sight, of the Spanish reality as an international power, of cultural and technical industry of the first order, recognized and prestigious: architecture and urban planning.
