What is METALOCUS Building of the Year?

In its second edition, the METALOCUS Building of the Year Proclamation consolidates, qualifies and develops our annual manifesto of recognition of architectural achievement. We identify the best architecture of our time, the commitment to its time, and therefore the architectural positioning of its authors in creating models and references to create the most outstanding architecture.

Our second proclamation of the "Building of the Year", understood as a built architectural project, is once again organized by METALOCUS - a reference architecture website throughout the world - highlighting excellence in architecture with a global and international vision to give the maximum recognition to architects from all over the world, with achievements anywhere.
The nomination is made throughout the entire year, on this occasion the real entire year, so we have moved its declaration to the end of each winter, that is, actually to the beginning of each year, as an act of optimism when declaring the arrival of spring. As in its first edition, the mention proposal can be made by anyone, completely free and open.

The Building of the Year declaration is organized by METALOCUS with the critical support of a panel made up of leading figures from the world of architecture, who cover, write and give judgment on the building, generating credibility support and an unprecedented reach.

"No publication in the world, in any format, carries out a deployment of such magnitude on a single project."

Each proposal and statement is published on METALOCUS and shared through our social media audiences and newsletters, which will provide significant outreach and recognition to participants. In addition, the winners will be able to promote the fact of being declared METALOCUS Building of the Year.

The winner will be announced tomorrow, March 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Madrid (CET).

What is different about our statement regarding the awards?

There are many architecture awards, but the METALOCUS statement is different.

Firstly, the selection focuses on a work of architecture, as a constructed manifesto. It is a declaration granted as a result of its transformative capacity, innovative contributions in technique, presentation as a reference model in architecture or the purposeful and avant-garde significance of its authors.

Secondly, our evaluation criteria have been carefully considered to ensure that the winning projects, in addition to being beautiful and innovative, put users and the environment at the centre of their action. We believe that good Architecture should not only not be ignored, but should enhance and influence issues such as social impact, sustainability, climate change or the landscape, seeking projects that take these approaches as their own.

Thirdly, those who will give credence to the declaration will be prominent figures in architecture in the company of non-architects, presenting opinions, reflections, texts or statements that motivate and justify the Declaration.

What we are looking for?
The evaluation criteria (looking backwards and forwards) that can guide the most, without prejudice to others, are:

Innovation: Incorporates a constructive, original project proposal in a new way. We do not mean to reinvent the wheel, but we will look for evidence of new ways of building, purposeful approaches and new ideas.

Utility: It provides an improvement both for people's lives and for other travellers on the planet. The project does not have to be a model that saves the world, but it must be empathetic, respectful and considerate of users and the environment.

Beauty: He has incredible vision. We know that beauty is subjective, however aesthetic rigour, attention to detail, its relationship with the context and the appropriate use of materials will be sought.

What is obtained from the Declaration?
The Building of the Year will be published in METALOCUS and will be widely disseminated and promoted through METALOCUS' extensive social and email networks. Everyone will know the statement and why!
