The International VELUX Award 2014 is open for registration. The global and prestigious Award is organized for the sixth time to challenge students of architecture to explore the theme of daylight in architecture.

The jury for the International VELUX Award 2014 comprises five jury members representing world-class architectural thinking from different vantage points in architectural practice, teaching and writing: Craig Dykers (USA) is founding partner of Snøhetta, Róisín Heneghan (Ireland) is founding partner of Heneghan Peng Architects, Magda Mostafa PhD (Egypt) is currently an Associate Professor of Architecture at the American University in Cairo, Catherine Slessor (UK) is Editor of the Architectural Review, Per Arnold Andersen (Denmark) architect and head of the Daylight, Energy and Indoor Climate Department in the VELUX Group.
Themes.
The award contains no specific categories, but entries may focus on:
- Concepts with focus on sunlight as a natural source of light and energy.
- The contribution of daylight to high visual quality and interior comfort that support people’s lives and living conditions.
- The rethinking of daylight in urban or surburban living context.
- The importance of sunlight and daylight for sustainable architecture that takes into account the rhythm and balance of nature.
- Daylight and sunlight as a source of human health and wellbeing.
- Abstract concepts like daylight vs. artificial light, day vs. night, in vs. out, etc.
Prizes
The total prize money is 30,000 Euro. The number of prize winners and honourable mentions will be decided by the jury.
1st prize. Minimum 8,000 Euro for the student(s) and 2,000 Euro for the teacher(s)
2nd prize. Minimum 4,000 Euro for the students(s) and 1,000 Euro for the teacher(s)
Up to ten projects will be shortlisted for honourable mention and an Award trophy. The jury may award special prizes for categories or themes.
