The next exhibition of the ICO Museum (Madrid, Spain) will open on June 1st under the name of "Robbins & Becher. Desplazamientos" [Robbins & Becher. Displacements]. This is the first retrospective on the work of the photographers ever made in the country, gathering pieces which span through the 25 years of Robbins & Becher career. The theme of the exhibition focuses on what the authors call " transported place ", the bursting of realities and very specific places in a foreign and very different from the original environment area or culture. Those interested can visit the exhibition until September 11th.

The aforementioned "transported places" of Robbins and Becher can not be understood separately from their causes and consequences, as in most cases the dislocation of the situation is created from great problems throughout history (slavery, colonialism, the Holocaust ...). The exhibition at the ICO Museum, which takes part in the PhotoEspaña 2016 festival, includes pieces which make evident the influence of documentary photography in the couple of artists, who have added a conceptual and socially critical perspective.

The organization of the exhibition has been held by the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen. It has been divided on the following series: "Black Cowboys" (2008-2016), "Colonial Remains" (1991), "German Indians" (1997-1998),"Figures ..." (2002), Global Village (2003-2005), "770" and "the East's West" (2016).

The exhibition will be complemented by external but related events, such as the presentation of the book "Black Cowboys" or a round table to be attended by Andrea Robbins, Max Becher and Eva Schmidt. This event takes place on May 31 at the headquarters of the Goethe-Institut Madrid.

Andrea Robbins and Max Becher (born in Boston in 1963 and Düsseldorf in 1964, respectively, in the present settled in New York) met in college in 1984 and got married some years later. Ever since, they have worked both individually and as a team in the fields of photography, video and digital media. Robbins and Becher have also given lectures in the arts departments of the Cooper Union, Rutgers University and Florida University.

Robbins & Becher work is focused in places which have been put out of their original contexts, and their causes and consequences. Therefore, their photographic series, accompanied by brief texts, offer visually revealing facts without entering in the field of journalism.
