The famous French illustrator Benjamin Lacombe, is going through Spain these days. Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid are being his stops, and in the case of Madrid, also a great exhibition of original drawings in the ABC Museum, from today until January 26, 2014.

Also, this afternoon, will sign in Madrid, between 17.00 h. to 20.00 h. in Casa del Libro (Gran Vía, 29) and tomorrow December 21, from 11.00 am. to 2.00 pm. in Casa del Libro (Alcalá, 96) and 5.30 pm. to 8.00 pm. in Fnac (Preciados, 28).

Benjamin Lacombe opens in Spain with an exhibition of original drawings in the ABC Museum. The exhibition, which includes 30 illustrations and 2 sculptures, is a journey through works from the books: Takes of the Macabre, Swinging Christmas, Notre Dame, Ondina, The Fairy Herbrarium, Nightingale, Snow White, The Butterfly Lovers and Madame Butterfly.

His stories mainly dealt themes of childhood, nostalgia and social rejection. Topics emphasized by his illustrations for using different techniques such as gouache, pencil, watercolor or oil painting. The result is preciosistas, colorful, melancholic and full details creations that can be enjoyed until the end of next January.

Benjamin Lacombe is a French author and illustrator born in Paris on July 12th, 1982. He is one of the head representatives of the new French illustration.

In 2001, he enteted the École Nationale Supé´rieure des Arts Décoratifs ( ENSAD ) in Paris, where he pursued his artistic training. While in school, he also worked in advertising and animation. Then, at the age of 19, he published his first grahic novel and several other illustrated books...

His final school project, Cerise Griotte ( Cherry and Olive ), witch he wrote and il- lustrated in its entirety, became his first children’s book and was published by Seuil Jeunesse in March 2006. It was published the following year by Walker Books ( USA ) and listed as one of Time Magazine’s 10 best children’s book in 2007.

Since then, Benjamin Lacombe has written and illustrated a number of books. Several of these have been translated and released all over the world : Les Amants Papillons ( The Butterfly Lovers ), Généalogie d’une sorcière ( Genealogy of a Witch ), La Mélodie des Tuyaux ( Pipe Song ), Il était une fois... ( Once upon a Time... ), Les contes Macabres ( Takes of the Macabre ) or even L’Herbier des fées ( The Fairy Herbrarium ).

Benjamin Lacombe regularly exhibits his works, most prominenly with the following galleries : Ad Hoc Art ( New York ), Dorothy Circus ( Rome ), Maruzen ( Tokyo ), Nucleus ( Los Angeles ), and Daniel Maghen Gallery ( Paris )...
