Ferrell FRANCO

Ferrell Franco. Born in 1942 in Versailles, Franco had to flee with his family to Cali due to the civil war in 1951.  Young Ferrell Franco began working in 1956 for the Photostudio Estudio Arte Italia to become the fotocinero.

In 1962 he is working as a photojournalist for El País and Occidente, covering the news about violence in the streets of Cali and the society pages.

Gradually, Ferrell Franco enters the art scene with artists like Oscar Muñoz, Ever Astudillo, Luis Ospina and Carlos Mayolo, with whom he meet to exchange ideas.

From the 70 he will begin to have an approach with experimental photography with a series of photographies called Prostitutes. Thereafter, he will develop several photographic series about the streets of Cali, exposing them in museums like the Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia in Cali (1979), the National Center for Art and Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris,  France (1982) or the International Festival of Photography in Houston (1992).

Ferrell Franco died in 2006 in Cali.
