The place, this mini-Paris, is located in Tianducheng, is a housing estate in the suburbs of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The city, also called Sky City, one of China’s “ghost towns,” completed less than decade ago (Construction began around 2007) for housing 80,000 Chinese, that now sit mostly vacant.
This distopic urban area has as central feature is 108-metre-tall replica of the Eiffel Tower and 31 km² of Parisian style architecture, fountains and landscaping, the perfect stage to Jamie XX’s “Gosh,” a great little tale about copycats, alienation or messianism.
