“Daddy’s Not The One” is part of the debut EP by American singer-songwriter KELS. Born in Germany and raised in Pittsburgh, the artist currently resides in Atlanta, where she develops a sound that fuses jazz, pop, and neo-soul with a raw blues reminiscent of Amy Winehouse.

In 2023, she embarked on a 52-concert independent tour across the United States, without the backing of a manager or record label, successfully capturing the public's attention and generating growing anticipation for her project.

“Daddy’s Not The One” is a powerful single that portrays the consequences of getting involved with someone who promises a lot but delivers little. Through this song, KELS champions female independence and argues that it’s preferable to be alone than to depend on false “providers” whose promises ultimately crumble.

The music video takes place at a campsite, where KELS shares the screen with two women and delivers a sensual performance. Filmed in a single, uninterrupted take, the video embraces a natural aesthetic that reinforces the honesty and rawness conveyed by the song.

Lyrics.-

Boy, you know I ain′t your Mrs
Done with a capital D
I ain't got time for your runnin′ around
Don't sing your Coca-Cola blues to me

Daddy said, "Can't teach an old dog tricks
Dig for gold and you′ll get dirty hands"
Town is small, but people talkin′ big
Oh, we know just what you did

You better run, run, run, run
Daddy's got a gun
Run, run, run, run
Daddy′s not the one

Ain't nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now
Ain't nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now
Ain't nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Daddy′s got a gun

Ain′t nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Ain′t nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Ain′t nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Daddy′s got a gun

He shot me down, bang-bang
He shot me down, bang-bang
My baby shot me

Look here what the cat dragged in
Now you're actin' like a mouse (he shot me)
Baby, just a week ago you said that this was your house (mm)
Don′t come around when you feel alone, rather walk down this road solo
Nothin′ but a strange addiction, betrayal got me feelin' wicked
Grab your little keys and your Marlboros, hurry up, daddy′s comin' home
How fast can you go?

Daddy said, "Can′t teach an old dog tricks
Dig for gold and you'll get dirty hands"
Town is small, but people talkin′ big
Oh, we know just what you did

You better run, run, run, run
Daddy's got a gun
Run, run, run, run
Daddy's not the one

Ain′t nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now
Ain't nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now (ay)
Ain't nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now
Daddy's got a gun (you better run)

Ain′t nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Ain't nobody, ain′t nobody gonna save you now
Ain′t nobody, ain't nobody gonna save you now
Daddy′s got a gun (gotta run)

He shot me down, bang-bang
He shot me down, bang-bang
He shot me down, bang-bang
My baby shot me down
