Mónica Gener presents his works in the exhibition "Buscando el equilibrio natural / Looking for natural balance" in the Raquel Ponce Gallery. Backlit photographs (duratrans) mounted on different elements (wood windows and boxes painted in white, and light boxes). Until 4 December.

Artist’s Statement

What would happen if nature were to take possession of the inhabited interior space?

This exhibition “In Search of the Natural Equilibrium” deals with the intent to fuse Architecture and Nature, reviewing the physical space usually dominated by each.
The concept could be defined as the longing to empty the architectural space and to displace it with Nature, assuming that this is an animal and vegetable world, with meteorological  phenomenas and other elements and happenings  affecting nature.
Man, has always colonized the natural space to build a shelter.  In this space he has decided to design a place to live and with the intention of protecting himself from the exterior, he builds walls and creates living spaces where Nature is left outside.
This originally precarious construction has evolved into a well planned architecture, more than a shelter and development of the daily life of the people, to create an impact, to provoke and innovate.  If we allow Nature to dwell within these contemporary spaces, it is possible that once again, we may achieve the balance and harmony of man within the natural environment.
This idea of introducing natural elements into the living spaces has always been used to dignify and balance the bionomial “inside-outside”, although most of the times, it has been reduced to the use of ornamental motifs, or these spaces, so popular in these modern architectural modes, where an enclosed glass space is left as a natural light zone, displaying a small garden.

Formal Concept
Most of the pieces that make up this exposition, are installations composed of digital photographs mounted on extra thin light boxes, led-illuminated from behind.

The formalization of the installations is completed with the inclusion of a piece of furniture, a domestic element which is also converted in a light box, in which, natural elements are represented  and, upon occasion, escape from the physical space of the container.

The intention is to create a space where reality and representation display a sequence of artificial time, which goes in and out of the container of the bi-dimensional image.
